Feathered Friends 40 Below Pants are some of the best, if not the best, down insulated pants on the market. They are tough and warm. The toughness comes from a nylon shell with even heavier nylon reinforcement on the seat and knee where you need it most, while the warmth comes from high quality 750 fill power down.
The knees are articulated to aid in movement, there are suspenders and full side zips with wind flaps. The shell is also Event, one of the newest shell materials.
I use these pants while on patrol and winter camping up here in the Arctic where good clothing can be a matter of life or death. To illustrate this, last December I had to sleep outside with only my clothes on while the temperature hovered around - 42°C. With the 40 Below pants I was surprisingly warm for the entire night.
I also have a pair of Canada Goose Tundra Pants which I no longer wear as they are sub par to say the least. Compared to the Feathered Friends 40 Below pants the CG Tundras look flat and cheap. The CG Tundras have unspecified down sandwiched between quilted fabric while the FF pants are baffled; the way all good quality insulated clothing and sleeping bags should be made.
Feathered Friends is also a custom shop which allows you to customize your clothing however you want while their prices are reasonable.
The Feathered Friends 40 Below pants are well worth the price and live up to their reputation.
