The ultralight version of the exped Venus II isn't a patch on the Extreme version

Pros

  • Great design
  • Easy to set up

Cons

  • The ultra light version is delicate
  • The floor has to have a footprint
  • It's not reliable on its own
  • The joiners that hold the fly to the rest of the tent break and snap
  • The fly is super thin and easily rips

I had the Venus II Extreme and it is the best tent in the world.  Mine lasted years. Though I had a lot of issues with the floor. You have to use a footprint.  The floor easily leaks and is not dependable. But the tent as a whole is fantastic. Easy to pitch, great design. Worth the money.

The ultra light version on the other hand is pathetic. On a 4-week trip in Europe, every joiner that connects the fly to the rest of the tent snapped and I had to sew them together. Also stitching on the sleeve where the pole was fitted ripped.

The whole tent is wafer thin compared to the extreme version and not worth the money. I could not recommend the ultralight version whatsoever.

Background

Over 10 years with the Extreme version in many different testing conditions. Four weeks with the UL version in easy conditions.

Source: bought it new
Price Paid: $650 for the ultralight. $850 for the extreme
