Equinox Armadillo Pillow

photo: Equinox Armadillo Pillow pillow

This fall, I had continued to use my inflatable camp pillow, which was fine except I had trouble adjusting inflation to a comfortable level, and it has a slick, and slippery surface. When I saw the Equinox pillow, I immediately was impressed by its softness, and nice level of padding. It may not pack as compactly as the inflatable, but it makes for a better night's sleep.

Pros

  • Soft fabric, one side microfleece and one supplex
  • Durable and maintains puffiness
  • Easily wrapped with attached strap

Cons

  • Long enough but a bit wider would be nice
  • A bit bulkier than some other camp pillows

This pillow is very comfortable; it is primarily used for canoe camping and some cabin/car camping. It has proven to be quite comfortable, and really does not take much more space in the packing bag than my older inflatable pillow. It may be bulkier, bit is a bit shorter when rolled up. I like the attached wrap strap, which goes over a bit of a flap at one end,  so I will not lose it.

The fabric on the Equinox is very nice; the microfleece side is soft, and the supplex side (reported to be water repellent, though I have yet to actually have to test that) is also comfortable. The pillow is 9 x 18 in. when opened up ( plus a 6 inch fabric triangle flap at one end), and weighs just 8.5 oz. The stuffing is a polyester fill, which puffs up nicely when the pillow is opened up, but it also compresses pretty compactly.

The pillow is only 9 inches wide when opened up, which is a bit narrow, but this is a compact camping pillow after all.  It comes in a variety of colors, and is machine washable. It is very reasonably priced, and I would recommend it for someone looking for a very comfortable pillow; it may not be as compact as some others, but it has served me well for our activities.
