EMS Feather Pack Jacket
I got the EMS Feather when my cousin sent me a link he got in his email. The non-hooded version was on sale for $100 so I got one. Incredibly warm and we are having an abnormally cold winter in Northern California, so I am happy I got it.
Only thing I wish was an option was tall sizes. I’m lanky and 6'3" and the large is about 2" too short on me. Other than that, super warm. Wore in light rain for about 45 minutes walking my dog and never got cold once. The second I took it off I was instantly cold. It’s great insulation.
Pros
- Very comfortable and warm
- Treated down and this amount of fill is rare at the price point.
Cons
- No tall sizes means it’s a little short on tall people like myself
- Also I have broad shoulder, so needing and picking things up gets cramped in the arms. I don’t see myself doing much of that though, so not a big issue.
Basically this is a great jacket and super warm. I got it in large and my Patagonia Rainshadow fits over it perfectly. This thing is built for layering but can be used as a shell in anything but a downpour of rain. I really like it and it’s gotten a few compliments already.
I lived in Virginia as a teen and hiked the AT so was familiar with EMS (actually got my first down jacket there at 13, a TNF Nuptse) here in Northern California. I have a feeling this will be with me for years. It’s replacing an LL Bean down jacket I got in 2010 that just looks awful, but is still functional.

It’s been a great jacket.
