Elie Sound 100 XE
Terrific overall kayak.

- Affordable
- Durable
- Comfortable
Purchased new in April 2014 from REI.
Wanted to find a good kayak for recreational use that wouldn't break the bank. Settled on two Elie Sound 100XE's at around $600 piece.
Having used three years now, I feel I can give some insight.
Majority of use has been on calm waters—lakes, creeks, and streams. I imagine a high end one can really move, but I have no issues moving quickly in this. Decent balance in width.
Creature Comforts—The seat is very comfortable, allows you to recline or sit up straight. Above average lumbar support. Dry hold in rear (could also be a live well or ice box!). Straps in front for misc items. Cup holder and dry bag on "dash". There are adjustable foot rests inside to fit to comfort (I'm 6'3, adjusts perfect). A good friend that is 6'5" 250 lbs also fits just fine.
Maneuverability seems good—technique plays a part, but it's very functional in tight spots.
Also very pleased with the weight. Easy to carry, with hand-holds on both ends to aid in portaging. Construction seems very solid. Hope to have them years from now.
