Deuter ACT Trail PRO 38 SL

rated 4.5 of 5 stars
photo: Deuter ACT Trail PRO 38 SL overnight pack (35-49l)

This pack is well made and allows for many adjustments. The padding makes it quite comfortable and it is the perfect size for an overnight hike.

Pros

  • Multiple compartments
  • Rain cover is included
  • Great venting

Cons

  • Could benefit from a wider range of adjustments (smaller)
  • No compression straps for bottom compartment

This pack is designed for women and contains more padding through the hips. It is very comfortable. The adjustments could be improved a bit by offering a wider range (it could be just a tad smaller for me). It vents well and even on very hot days the back remains dry. The straps get wet, but that is something I can live with.

The capacity is great for an overnight hike. There is plenty of room for a sleeping pad, cooking gear, food, and a small tent. My sleeping bag is bulky so it is best strapped to the outside of the pack when needed. It feels stable even when fully packed and the weight remains distributed well.

The fit and finish are very good. The zippers are durable and the straps slide easily. I would like to have the ability to compress the bottom of the pack when I am not using it for an overnight trip, but it does not present a detriment to not have the compression.

I've been using this pack for a few months for day hikes and during air travel and have been pleased with it.
