Columbia Whirlibird III Glove
Excellent value-for-money.
Pros
- Warm
- Comfortable
- Very affordable
- Great adjustability
Cons
- Colours a little 1980s
As these gloves are often sold at big discounts, likely due to the over-top colour schemes Columbia has chosen to use, they represent excellent value for money.
The fit is not excellent, but it is quite good, and the adjustability and long cuff are top notch and make it easy to seal out the snow and cold. The gloves are adequately warm (not too hot to cause sweating, but just right for moderate activity, like descending down a mountain).
I have only used them in cold snowy weather, so I cannot comment on how waterproof they are, but they appear to shrug off snow without issue. Breathability is not a concern as I only wear them when quite cold.
The construction appears to be good, and they have performed as expected without fail. So far there is no sign of abrasion or wear, however they have not been subjected to anything other than snow and the occasional placement on some rocks for balance when hiking.
I can also take comfort that should I ever need rescuing, the flourescent green and baby-blue colour scheme will make it easy for the helicopter to spot me.
