Coleman Red Canyon 8-Person

Great tent. A couple of years ago I bought it for about $89 at Wal-mart.

I wanted our family to spend some time together away from home and all of the distractions around. My wife had previously had a bad experience camping (more than 15 years ago) so was not enthused about going but went along anyway :)

We live in the Phoenix area and headed up to Payson. The weather was not so good and some rain was in the forecast. We barely got the tent set up before some light rain started. Then it rained and rained and rained and rained some more. It was supposed to stop around 10-11 pm and didn't let up until about 5 am.

For us it was also coooold. When we got up in the morning we were one of only two tents that were still in the campsite. It looked as though others packed it in.

We found the sound of the rain and the experience to be exciting, even my wife. It was great fun for the kids.

Now, for the best part. We didn't seam seal it (what were the chances we would need that???). We did have some drops coming in near some of the seams on both ends of the tent. Nothing major. We positioned some paper cups where there were drips to keep the floor dry. We could even feel the water running under the floor. We stayed totally dry.

Two years later we still haven't seam sealed, but have bought it.

The tent is very roomy for our family of 4 to keep all of our stuff inside with us. Each of the ends are not so friendly for tall adults to stand up. There is a room divider that comes with the tent that we have never used, due to not being able to figure it out.

Instructions are fine, although could be a little better. It's nice that they're attached to the case.

For some sites, the tent is actually a little too big. We recently bought an Ara 6 so we can camp at Yellowstone. Growing up we had a canvas cabin tent. My preference would be to have a cabin tent, but given the price difference and performance am very happy with our Red Canyon.

The tent was easy to put up but the GUARANTEED DRY WEATHERTEC SYSTEM is not worth a darn.

The tent during a thunder storm was not what it said it was to be. The tent leaked so bad that i had pools of water in the tent and all my sleeping gear and clothing was wet and i had to end my 2 week trip short after just 2 days of being in the Mn boundary waters. I waited for 3 years to get the chance to get up there and this tent ended my dreams of seeing a moose and a bear in the great outdoors faster then i dreamed.

I hope this company will do something about this problem so it will not happen to anyone else. I also hope that they will take good care of this and make me happy and do the right thing and take care of my leaky tent.

The Coleman Red Canyon 8 Person, 17x10 3 Rooms Tent is Truly the BEST TEN EVER! I just purchased it and used it here in the Chicago Area when we had record rainfall... almost 9 inches in 2 days... it had about 1/4 cup of water scattered in drops on the floor... Way cool!. I did seam seal it with Coleman Seam Sealer. Highly Recommended! I hate to put it away for the winter.

It has open windows that don't zip up, but that is protected under the fly. If you use this in cooler weather, best to have a heater.

It's big enough for our family of 4, but I got greedy for space and bought the kids their own Coleman - Villa Del Mar Hex - 13 x 11 Dome Tent - Sleeps 7- which had the same awesome result!

I received this tent for a birthday four years ago. It has served me well. Not too hard to set up and roomy. Been through several storms while camping (gets used at least one weekend a month March through October and at least 1 week long plus several long weekends a year) without leaking.

I did seal seams when I got it. It developed a very slight leak from rainfly last year during a very heavy rain. I sealed seams on fly and spayed with camp dry and have been in same heavy rain situation with no leaks. I have 2 teenage children and friends plus a 2 year old grandchild. We have all given the tent a workout. Overall I am pleased with it.

The tent is nice for fair weather. I've sprayed waterproofer on the rain fly and the whole tent. I even seamed sealed all the seam like the instructions stated to do so the tent "will not leak." It still leaked. I'll use this tent for weekends that aren't going to rain! It only has one door, so sleeping the eight folks it states it sleeps will make for a cramped water park adventure!

I am taking this tent on its first real camping trip the weekend of the 4th of June . It is ez enough to set up with one person, but would like to hear from someone that has the Colombia Cougar Run 2 Tent to see how they like it. For a 200 dollar savings, I am hoping we like it as much as our kids did.
