A packable light enough compact binocular

Pros

  • Good optics
  • tough enough
  • adjustable focus
  • adjustable diopter
  • 9.4 0z
  • 7.1degree field of view
  • 1 oz carry case with belt loop
  • eye cups
  • lens caps

Cons

  • discontinued but available
  • not as compact as others
  • plastic lanyard

I was given these as a present back in the 90s. They have been in whatever packs I've had since then. They are 7x25 power. Not the best at low light transmission but great during the day. Made in Japan and of good or great quality so have no need to get bigger ones. I've owned large 40-50mm objective lens binoculars but those were much larger and heavier.

These are what I consider a perfect size for hiking or travel and will fit easily in a pack, console or glovebox. They've been damp and cold quite a few time and get a wipe down when I get home. Because I store them in a good environment I've seen no lens clouding. I'd recommend these but since they are discontinued I'd suggest looking at newer Bushnells or getting a decent pair of these from an auction site. I have seen them on eBay for $30 to $100 with all the caps and box. I'm pretty certain what my wife paid for them was about $40 at the time. About 4' wide x 3 5/8" extended , 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" folded. Mine look nearly new after all these years with a few minor scuffs.

Background

I used to live at the beach and owned several pairs of various quality binoculars in various power. As well as that I used to carry a 10x 30 monocular on camping trips.
