Black Diamond Epic 35
The Epic 35 has been discontinued. It was replaced by the Black Diamond Speed Zip 33.
Fine backpack for hiking and climbing.
Pros
- Good shape of shoulder straps
- Possible attachement for rope
- Design
- Hip belt sling for equipment with two slots for ice clipper
Cons
- Price
- Non-adjustable head
Fit
It fits great even when carrying heavy load. Shoulder straps have special design and it improves how it sits on your back. With little trying I set shoulder straps and hip belt to fit perfectly.
Comfort
As I said, it's very comfortable.
Organization & Accessibility
It would be great if it would allow some access inside from side or from the bottom, but it doesn't. It has outside and inside pocket in head and one inside the bag that fits camelback. It has two holes for Source pipe.
Ride
I like it since it is not big and clumsy so I can climb chimneys and stuff.
Features
Hip belt slings with slot for ice clipper.
Hole for Source camelback.
Special attachment for crampons on the outside of the backpack. (I have been warned it is not very safe as crampons can fall off; if fall in soft snow you may not even hear that!)
Attachemnt for rope.
Construction & Durability
It is still like new.
Conditions
I am using it for one year for climbing.
I just regret there is second access to the inside and if you have lot of stuff you can not lift the cover of backpack (head) with some adjustable straps. If I put lot of stuff in, I have troubles looking up for the route or belaying first climber.
Source: bought it new
