Big Agnes Burn Ridge Outfitter 2

rated 4.5 of 5 stars
photo: Big Agnes Burn Ridge Outfitter 2 three-season tent

A great mid-weight, affordable backpacking tent.

Pros

  • Easy setup
  • Free standing
  • Works well in precipitation

Cons

  • Heavier than lightweight tents

I can set up the tent in 2 minutes after a few setup experiences. I love the fact that it is free-standing and rarely use the pegs (this also allows me to hold the upper pole and shake out the tent before packing). The quick-clips are far superior to sleeved poles.

By exchanging the included pegs with titanium, I shed several ounces. I also use a Mylar footprint (emergency poncho) which costs $1 each and is recyclable at the end of the trip.

It is very comfy for one person and will sleep two without crowding. With one person, I have lots of room for my stuff.

The fly works well and, during a fairly-heavy rainfall with wind, I was dry and comfortable.

I have used it for over 60 days this year of 2014 and the only problem was that the shock-cord in one of the poles came loose from the plastic hub.  Big Agnes, when notified and furnished with the poles, did an immediate repair and returned them so they are good as new.
