Bedrock Cairn Pro II

I’ve been lucky enough to own Bedrock sandals, Chaco sandals, Shamma Sandals, and Teva sandals. Each brand has strengths and weaknesses in the outdoors. But Bedrock’s ability to provide a quality sandal that can do it all makes them stand out from the rest. In fact, the Bedrock Cairn Pro II Adventure Sandals is one of my favorite sandal options to date for a number of different reasons.

Bedrock Cairn Pro II Features

Are you headed to the crag? No problem. Do you expect to explore tidal pools in these sandals? They'll have your back. The Bedrock Cairn Pro II comes with an extra G hook on the heel in order to ensure that your foot is cupped and prepped for any journey. The zero drop sole allows your feet to stay relaxed in their natural state. And the thickness of the sole is designed to handle varied terrain.

Sandal Weight

Backpackers might consider packing their Bedrock Cairn Pro II for a camp sandal. It's light enough no keep your baggage to a minimum. But it's heavy enough to keep you protected. With a 9-ounce weight, you can expect these sandals to weigh substantially less than Chacos, which tend to weigh as many as two pounds. Shamma Sandals tend to weigh 3-5 ounces, which is easily the lightest option on the market. But they're not quite as protective. Bedrocks are a middle of the road sandal in terms of weight, but the protective features are unmatched.

Sandal Comfort

Initially, you may struggle with a pressure point where the thong of this sandal meets your toes. But this is avoidable. It can take some time to find the right adjustments on your Bedrock Cairn Pro II Sandals, but once you do, you'll never struggle with comfort. There's also no break-in period with these sandals.

Performance in Wet Conditions

Unlike some sandals that permit your feet to slip around in your sandals when wet, the Cairn Pro II gives you a snug fit even when saturated. Additionally, the traction is largely unimpacted by the moisture which makes it extremely reliable. The webbing dries quickly, which makes it great for wet environments. If you happen to traipse through the water, you won't have to worry about staying wet for very long in these sandals.

Bedrock Manufacturing

Bedrock Sandals are assembled in the United States. And the parts with which they construct sandals are manufactured both domestically and internationally.

How Bedrock Compares to the Competition

Compared to the competition, Bedrock has better traction, the perfect fit, a thick sole, and a fair amount of adaptability. But the thong design of this sandal requires that you own toe socks when the temperatures dip low.

This sandal also comes in whole sizes, which can be tough for those who usually fit in the space between. And it's less malleable than other options. However,  the durability, sticky sole, and re-soleable structure makes it a top contender.

Testing Conditions:

I spent time growing marijuana in the desert, exploring the Pacific coastline, scaling waterfalls in North Carolina, and scrambling on rocks in California with these sandals. The sole was impressively grippy in every circumstance, allowing my clumsy self to rest a little easier while I walked. In well-graded terrain, I felt confident in this sandal’s ability to keep me upright and charging forward. And the adjustable heel makes it easy to shift the fit of these sandals while you’re on the go.

Conclusion

The Bedrock Cairn Pro II sandal is a new staple item for me. It's so easy to slip them on and off, and to feel supported while you're wearing these sandals. While they may be a little less convenient than some of the competitive sandals, they're certainly more reliable.

Background

I've owned a number of different types of adventure sandals. And Bedrocks are my favorite options so far. They're grippy, which is an unbeatable feature for a hiker and climber like myself. I've owned these sandals for several months, and we've probably hiked several hundred miles together at this point.
