photo: Arc'teryx Quintic 28 winter pack

Excellent all around pack. Great for skiing, day hikes, travel, class, etc. I would definitely recommend this pack!

Pros

  • Water resistant
  • Carries weight well, distributes evenly
  • Weighs next to nothing while empty
  • Has compartment for bladder
  • Multiple compartments to organize gear
  • Comfortable shoulder straps. Embraces the shape of your back.

I debated whether to get this pack when it came out. Did I need it? Was it worth the price tag? I got this pack for skiing, and have now since used it for everything! to day hikes, up an avalanche, to traveling state to state, to exploring a glacier for hours walking along on the ice crawling into caves, and just walking about the city.

It is so light and well constructed. Weighs next to nothing when empty. Shoulder straps are thin but amazingly comfortable. the shape of the pack embraces my back and hugs it. I like having compartments to organize everything in and this pack does just that.

Water repellent to an impressive degree. I have a Liberty bottle with screw-on cap and sometimes I do not screw it on properly, which was the case when I put it in my Quintic's side pocket. After 10 minutes my friend pointed out my bag was leaking. I unzipped the side compartment to discover about 12 oz's of water that had spilled out of my bottle and was being held in the compartment itself seeping through slowly.  I turned my bag upside down draining the bag of the water.

I fell in love with my bag all over again after that incident. I did not know it was that water tight even on the inside! All the straps and clips have a purpose and everything on this pack is excellent. I tend to ramble about gear I'm crazy about.

Bottom line: Yes, I would recommend this pack to anyone who is in search for a pack.
