I write this review more from a point of nostalgia than for its current relevance. I purchased a North Face Superlight in the spring of 1971, at the original Eastern Mountain Sports store in Boston, for the price of $75. It weighed three pounds.
I realize that the Superlight of 1971, which had a temp rating of 30 degrees, in no way compares to the Superlight of today, as today's model is rated as a 0 degree bag. But nonetheless, my old Superlight is the ancestor of today's model. With a cold weather North Face Ibex, I had my entire temperature ranges covered.
I still occasionally use the Superlight; it has sprung a few leaks but what the heck, it's 37 years old. I have always been impressed by the quality of this bag; even though it was a little snug. But talk about brand loyalty, since 1971 I have pretty much stuck to The North Face for sleeping bags and I have several.
