Keen Ukiah

Hello,

New to the forum, here. I've been scouting for new trailrunners and these shoes look interesting. I've been running off and on for a long time and recently decided to get back into it. However, I've been through a number of hits and misses on good shoes. Asic Gel Nandi's, NF Coyote Ridge Runners, Montrail Vitesse, NB 602's, some Nike knockoffs, and a few others I've lost track of. I really like the Coyote's as far as a true fit and comfort....and even the Gel Nandi's....but the durability wasn't there. Montrail's were fairly durable...fit sucked...but, I've glued the sole back on to the upper three times already. The Keen Humboldt's have a lot of great reviews, but the upper seems lighter than I'd like. That's where the Ukiah's come in. Unfortunately, I can't find much review on them. Plus, I have questions about the fit...true to size or not. Living out in the woods 20+ miles from the nearest town, I have difficulty just dropping into a shoe store and trying out what fits. So, I'm wondering if anyone 'round here has any helpful input. Has anyone had experience with these shoes? I might add I'm pretty much an ebay shopper anymore. Waiting around for local sales (which isn't often) gets rather inconvenient most of the time.

Thanks for any suggestions/feedback!

Re: Keen Ukiah

thook, I think your problem was that you asked specifically about a particular Keen model. Keen trail shoes aren't that popular (as your comment about not finding reviews indicates), so you aren't likely to get a response, or perhaps very few, which are likely to be either raves or heavy pans.

Most people on Trailspace, like any hiking-oriented site, tend to use boots for hiking, whether very light-weight or heavier mountaineering boots. You might have better luck on one of the ultralight hiker sites, like Backpacking Light (though trail running shoes tend to wear out too quickly for through-hikers.

I have used Adidas trail running shoes for many years and find them to work quite well for me. But like any footwear, dress shoe, running shoe, hiking boot, climbing boot, ski boot, fit is very personal (everyone's feet are different, and everyone's right foot is different from their left foot). So while Adidas fit me well, they might not fit you at all.

I have never owned Keen shoes, and have never been impressed by them, so I have no comment on them.
