You can get the Big Agnes Seedhouse SL 3 tent on ebay for about $260.00. It weighs 4.5lbs and it will fit 2 people with plenty of gear. It's called a 3 person tent but no way it will fit 3 unless it's an emergency. Here are a a couple of past auctions. The best thing is that this tent normally retails for $430.00

This guy is selling it for $307.00 with buy it now:

By the way, if you do decide to go for the Big Agnes tents make sure you get the 2008 version which features a much stronger mesh for the same weight.

I use a Sierra Designs Electron, 5lb. 7 oz. total. Typical top-notch Sierra Designs quality and warranty. I picked one up on sale for $90.00 including footprint, portable attic and hanging cup holders. A fine ultra-light tent for two.

Re: tents
I just went through such a hunt recently.
Look at the Big Agnes Seedhouse SL3 that is on sale at REI this weekend for $299. At 36 sq ft is is smallish for a 3 person but makes a roomy 2 person tent. Weight as packaged is 4 pounds 8 ounces!

The Sierra Designs Lightning is another very appealing tent; I would have purchased it had the Seedhouse SL3 not been on sale.

My Timberline 2 has taken a pounding and keeps on ticking. This is an old one when they were blue. The waterproofing is just getting a little sticky;still works excellent. It has never failed even been through nasty storms; next day this one was one of very few still standing.

Life changes quiclkly when you are told employment terminated. I need an inexpensive medium sized tent to leave in my little car.

Re: tents
ADD me to your list. Weight means nothing in my mobile survival kit. Tent, sleeping bag, 'GO BAG' with three days clothing and sundries can allow me to travel anytime. Big SUV tent with hundreds of pounds of equipment is too much for one person.
