There have been a handful of times that I had to light my whisperlite or a small cooking fire with such a device. Not playing around I mean, lighter got wet or matches didn't survive the trip (or..uh.. got left at home)
Mine is just a magnesium block with a flint you strike with your knife or whatever.
I think everyone should have something similar, and know how to use it.
And less than an ounce too.
