These kinds of surveys appear to be designed to solicit a pre-determined response and are always purported to be benign and just for fun. When worded differently you will get different answers.
Having said that, I vote for Homer. How could you resist?

I'd vote for McCain in the first situation, because I figure his military and POW background could serve us well, and I've read that he's hiked the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim with his son.

For a conversation partner I'd vote for Clooney, because he comes across as a pretty genial and easy-going guy (good traits for a hiking partner), and I'd expect him to be relatively fit.
